My name is Brittany Cain, and I live in the small bedroom community of Magnolia Texas just outside of Houston. I have been a lover of the shetland sheepdog breed for years. I got my first sheltie back in 1993. I have loved animals since I was a small child bringing home whatever my mother would allow. I always wanted to go to school to become a veterinarian, but God had different plans for me.
I have worked in the field of emergency nursing and first responder. It is a career that I have loved. I always wanted to have a small sheltie kennel, but never thought it would be a viable option for me. I investigated doing it years ago but the timing just wasn't right..............so I put my dream away on the shelf.
Most of what I have learned about shelties has been self taught either through observing at dog shows or through reading. The internet has become an invaluable tool for me. Facebook has also served as a valuable avenue for making connections with other sheltie people across the country that I don't believe otherwise would have been made available to me. Through these valuable friendships I have learned many things.
Whenever one starts a kennel there is always a begining that evolves from the hard work and sweat of the brow of other individuals. I am very fortunate to have aquired my foundational dogs from Rachel Hopkins Miller and Filiberto Martinez of Starlight Shelties, and along with that my foundational bitch which came from Bella Thompson of Belmark Shelties. I will always be grateful to these individuals for giving me my start in shelties. Saying thank you sounds and feels so inadequate for what they have helped me to become apart of today.
I live on a one acre lot and my dogs have the run of the place. When I bought my house it was all about the dogs.......luckily they let me live here. I wanted a place where they could run, bark and just enjoy the freedoms of being a dog.
As my mission statement says............."Striving For Excellence". Those just aren't words they are a firm promise to the commitment of furthering the betterment of the breed according to the AKC standard of shetland sheepdogs. Not only am I commited to producing the best possible healthy, happy and sound sheltie, but I am also committed to finding each and everyone of them the best possible home to live out their lives in health and harmony.
Here at Calvary Shelties we are on the cusp of new beginnings. It is exciting and immensely rewarding. I look forward to future friends, memories and of course................... THE JOURNEY.
